(More customer reviews)I scouted around for quite a long time before buying this bag and I am pleased with it. I wanted something comfortable to wear, something that didn't scream "camera", something with plenty of room for a camera, a couple of lenses and still enough room for keys, wallet, pen and notepad etc and yet not too big as to encourage overstuffing.My Mythos covers all those bases and after using it almost daily for 7 or 8 months now I'm still happy with it's quality and practicality.

I carry a hefty Nikon D200, usually with lens attached, and have room for another 2 lenses or lens and flash.The zipper mesh pocket holds memory cards and little sundries, and the bigger pocket in the front has ample room for phone, batteries, filters and other necessities. The shoulder strap is wide with a nice pad on it which distributes the weight well.

The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that the vertical zippers separating the front and rear compartments tend to creep down on both sides.This isn't a problem when the front latch is kept latched but occasionally I've carelessly grabbed the bag when it's not latched and noticed the zippers heading south.That could easily dump everything out, a scary thought.It hasn't gotten any worse over the months I've used it, but I'm keeping a watchful eye on it.

(More customer reviews)I had a hard time judging the worthiness of this bag without seeing it in person, so I took a chance.First, the quality of the polystyrene and the stitching and the strap are pretty good.Second, the actual way the bag wraps up the camera was never apparent to me no matter how many web sites I looked at. Now I know; the front of the camera stuffs intoit up to the back plate, a flap at the bottom-back folds over the back plate and - get this - wraps over the lens and allows the lens to stick through a hole.So it's the lens sticking through this hole that keeps the thing wrapped up.I hope that helps someone else to understand.Third, the bag isn't as convenient as i'd hoped.It seems like it might be a pain to get it unwrapped, shoot, and wrap it back up.It does, however, have a clip to attach the back to your camera strap so that it can just dangle while you shoot, and that's nice.

A problem that I have that isn't their fault - but that you might want to know about anyway - is that the bag is a bit too snug for my Nikon D50.At least it worries me how tight I have to wrap it to get the lens through the hole.

A five-star review would have meant a more convenient bag-shoot-bag process.

I started with the 7" model and, though my expectations were not high, sensed that the combination of the extra wide dimensions (necessitating constant repositioning of the frame) and lackluster resolution would result in my finding little if any use for the frame.NIX customer support was so helpful that I decided to stay with the brand but to move up to this 8" model.It's all the difference in the world and well worth the extra expense.First, the 4:3 dimensions of this frame assure that you can load it, start it, and forget it.No need to turn the frame on its long end to fill the frame for every vertically-oriented image. Even with auto rotation and split screen features, the extra wide (16:9) screens, or aspect ratios, of the lower-priced NIX and some of the other "stretched" frames introduce problems because of the different orientations of shots and the cropped or distorted shapes that frequently ensue upon tweaking an image to fill a frame.But there's more . . .

The picture of the 8" model, I'm convinced, has sharper definition and brighter, more pleasing colors--very close, if not equal, to a high-definition computer screen.Additionally, the slide show and transitions are performing more consistently, with the photos even showing more regularly in their correct--horizontal or vertical--orientation.And the size of the frame is such that a vertical photo, even though appearing in a frame that's slightly wider than it is high, does not look disproportionate.In fact, with this frame it's highly unlikely you'll turn the frame vertically to activate its "automatic orientation" feature. Finally, unlike the XO7B, which comes with a quick set-up sheet, the XO8A comes with a more informative and complete little booklet, including a trouble-shooting section (the instructions are perhaps less clear than those with the 7" model, but the frame is practically "plug and play," not requiring close examination of themanual.(If you do any tweaking, I'd recommend trying the automatic "crop" feature.It may reduce some of the area of your photos, but it won't distort or diminish size, consequently making it all the easier to keep the frame in a single, fixed position.I'm so satisfied with what this frame does for the photos taken with my Canon Elf (SD-780), I haven't even bothered to try out the video and music features.Frankly, they're not the reason I was in the market for a digital frame.

For either frame, it would undoubtedly be a good idea for many purchasers to order an inexpensive 2 GB flash card at the same time and to "dedicate" it exclusively for use in the frame (try to avoid the apparent "bundled" deal, which could cost you extra in postage. Instead, enter the item in "search" and order it from Amazon Prime, which offers a nice Kingston card for about five dollars).Finally, before calling or writing the company about a missing back-rest for this frame, notice that, unlike the 7" model (which employs a separate, detachable plastic piece), this 8" model has a handier, embedded telescoping silver rod.Simply use your thumbnail to pull it out of the back of the frame and you'll find it plenty sturdy for this lightweight frame.

Just a couple of caveats: First, the generally well-equipped audiophile is unlikely to make much use (if any) of the built in speakers and MP3 player. Second, the cost to the company of these added, perhaps mostly unused, features is likely reflected in the price.In that case, better the extra features were eliminated altogether or their expense devoted to the one feature that every user would certainly find most useful of all--a rechargeable battery, enabling cordless operation.These frames are currently undergoing rapid changes on the part of all manufacturers, so expect to see more cordless models, more onboard memory with convenient computer interfacing, and lower prices in the near future.But as anyone who has acquired any consumer technology in the last ten years knows all too well, such obsolescence goes with the territory (no longer is it a wise idea to spend a thousand or more on a TV set--these are not appreciating assets--in fact, quite the contrary).

RE: NIX Customer Support: I sent an e-mail with questions related to this model as well as a couple of others.The response was swift, extremely detailed, entirely personal (not an automated response), and very informative and helpful.(By contrast, Logitech offered to replace an entire keyboard with a bad key providing I e-mailed proof of purchase.I was extremely impressed and pleased, since I had hoped for, at most, a single replacement key.However, despite my 3 attempts to mail them my Amazon invoice--everything from a Jpeg to PDF to screen shot--I received the automatic response: "Your requested evidence of purchase is inadequate.Use a different format." If that's a company's version of "customer service," I'd rather receive service from another company, or no service at all, rather that repeatedly feel like someone is jerking my chain.)]

I bought these to replace the original about 5-year old 1100mAh Canon BP-511 battery that started to show signs of age.Old Canon's battery capacity decreased to the point where fully charged and with EF 100-400L IS lens fitted on camera, it wouldn't last till the end of my son's 30-minute soccer class.

These new batteries seem to be able to power my camera and a battery thirsty lens for a very long time.So, I'm happy.

Mine were shipped by bargaincell.com.As some reviewers already noticed, capacity is not printed on the batteries.Which is strange and unusual.I actually got batteries in two separate boxes (not one box with two batteries).Each box had SKU CAMCAN001 printed on it.Google search finds the page on the sellers web site that lists battery capacity as "only" 1600mAh.

Whatever the true capacity of these batteries are, they are still a great deal, and I'm definitely going to keep mine (I read reviews that challenged if these are truly 2000mAh before buying, so I knew what I going into).Unless you absolutely must have 2000mAh battery (currently selling for around $25), buy these and don't think twice.$7.34 for two is an incredible price.On the seller's own website, they sell single of these for $8.49!So grab two-pack on Amazon for the price of single battery while they still offer this deal.

The only complaint I have is that they do not come with plastic lid that protects contacts when battery is not in the camera.Luckily, my camera bag has handy compartments for batteries, so I don't really need those plastic lids (and I have one plastic lid that came with Canon's battery too).

The only reason for taking off two star is uncertainty what the true capacity of these batteries is.It's a really bad move on the manufacturer's and seller's part (taking one star off for each).Other than that, they work perfectly fine.

(More customer reviews)This camera corrects every single pet peeve regarding digital cameras I've ever had. I've owned a Sony Powershot and Canon Exlim in the past. The main problems I've had were blurry shots when I go out with friends to dim restaurants at night, missing shots because of the prolonged lag (esp from the Powershot), and forgetting to put the memory card back in the camera after I downloaded the last batch of pics I took.

The T30's Steady Shot works really well. While holding the camera with one hand, I purposely tremored my hand while taking a pic of a still subject; the shot turned out perfect. However, when I take the pic while shaking the camera, the pic still blurs...but really who really shakes their camera when taking a pic?

When the camera is set to full automatic point and shoot, the lag time is pretty much unnoticeable. I was at a wedding where the bridal party was walking into the dinner hall....caught every shot and didn't miss the ball because of lag.

58MB of internal memory is awesome. I can take 30 really high quality pics when I forget my mem stick...enough to cover an evening out in the city ... but definitely not enough for a vacation trip.

These were the main things which made me choose this camera over others. Another plus which is nice is the 3in screen with slideshow feature...my friends were really impressed with this (esp the lady friends hehe).

Otherwise, size wise, this camera is not the smallest. The Casio Exlim is definitely smaller and lighter than the T30, but it has features the Exlim is lacking in. But don't get me wrong, this camera is not big at all by any standard, it's only 0.1cm thicker than the Exlim. It still easily fits in my suit breast pocket and is not a hassle to tote around.

(More customer reviews)With 2.11 megapixels this camera is a good value for the money.At the highest resolution you should be able to blow a print up to 8x10.Camera is easy to use, basically just point & shoot.Push shutter button halfway for auto focus.Altho with default setting you can only get about 10-12 pictures on the 8MB internal memory, if you change the setting to 800 x 600 you can get 40 pictures instead, which I prefer because these pics won't take up as much room on your hard drive.(and this size looks great when I blow up the picture to use as a background on my computer!)With a 32 MB CF card you can get up to 180!!The red eye works very well.I've found with other cameras I always had a problem with red eye when taking pictures of my dog, but with this one I haven't had that problem.The software that comes with this camera is very user friendly.The closeup function works pretty well, you just have to watch the lighting with that to get good quality pics. The camera uses up batteries fast, but all of them do when you use the LCD display alot, which I do.***UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW***
I originally wrote the above in 2002, before my first child was even born (this camera was a wedding gift).I have since moved on to dSLRs and away from point & shoots.My 7 year old daughter is now using this camera as her first digital camera!This little thing has held up remarkably well over the years.Of course technology has improved GREATLY since then, so this is perfect for a child who is practicing, and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to an adult who already has experience with point & shoots... but I felt compelled to comment on the quality of this item and remark on the fact that it's still going strong!

Exposure can be a little tricky with it, and of course with only 2 mp the quality of the shots is not going to be perfect, but this camera is far superior to the digitals that are on the market right now aimed at the children's market.

Vivitar's ViviCam 3615 uses a 2-megapixel image sensor and an autofocus lens to capture crisp, sharp images at an affordable price.
The camera is targeted at users who like to simply point and shoot. Focus, flash, and exposure are all set automatically. Hoping for more creative control? You have only a few options: the flash has four modes (including red-eye reduction), the white balance can be set to one of four values to compensate for unusual lighting, and the exposure compensation can be adjusted.
For power, the camera uses four AA batteries or an optional AC adapter. The big benefit to using standard AA batteries instead of a custom proprietary battery is that AA batteries are available virtually everywhere in the world, so missing a once-in-a-lifetime shot due to dead batteries won't be an issue. The downside is that a digital camera will kill a set of alkaline batteries extremely quickly, especially if you're using the camera's LCD display. If you're an occasional photographer, you can get by with high-power disposables, but if you plan to take more than a handful of photos a month, a set of rechargeable batteries (scroll up to the Accessories section) is a virtual necessity.

To compose your image, either look through the traditional viewfinder or use the 1.6-inch color LCD display on the back of the camera. Pictures are stored in the camera's internal 8 MB memory, which holds approximately 12 images at the camera's default setting. The memory can be erased and reused repeatedly, but if you're hoping to take more photos before returning to your computer to transfer the images, the camera also accepts CompactFlash memory cards.

A video-out feature makes it easy to show your pictures in big-screen glory. Just connect your camera to your TV with the included cable to give a virtual slide show to friends or family. If you think your photos look impressive as a print or on a computer monitor, just wait until you see them on a 27-inch TV screen.
There is no optical zoom lens on the camera, but the ViviCam does include a 2x digital zoom. This feature crops the edges off your picture and blows up the remaining image, enlarging your picture at the expense of image quality. Most photo-editing software will let you do the same thing to your picture once you've transferred it to your home computer, so it's a camera feature that's not often used. The reason for including a digital zoom is purely financial; it costs almost nothing to add this feature, and a digital-zoom camera will cost you $50 to $100 less than a comparable camera with optical zoom.
The ViviCam 3615 shows just how much digital cameras have improved in the past few years. Even a year ago, a digital camera at this price would have had an inferior fixed-focus lens and substantially lower resolution. Though the 3615 doesn't have many fancy features, its lens and sensor prove that an affordable digital camera can produce quality results.

(More customer reviews)I have used quite a variety of point and shoot digital cameras over the years and for not much more money this camera is infinitely better than all of them.I really appreciate the size and quality feel of this camera's construction, the intuitive controls, and all of the included accessories (Leica lens, lens adapter, lens hood, etc).I was able to figure out the controls and start taking great pictures within a half hour of opening the box.

As a novice but "improving" photographer, I love the adaptability of this camera.Many light conditions can be overcome with just a few tweaks to the settings.The shutter speed is also a godsend as compared to the Canon point-and-shoot models.Just hold the button down and the rapid-fire shots pour into this camera.I am also absolutely thrilled with the battery life - hundreds of pics on one charge!This is a crucial improvement over the older cameras that absolutely devoured AA batteries.

On the downside, this camera is bigger than a point and shoot so carrying it can be an issue.Also, the internal memory is a joke, so I recommend that you buy a 2 gig memory card immediately.With that card installed I can store well over 500 high quality shots.

Basically if you are a no-fuss user, set it on simple mode and take a lot of great pics.If you are more advanced and take the time to figure out ISO seetings, you can set up some VERY good shots with this camera.I would never call it the be-all end-all digital camera but you will not find an equally good set of features without spending hundreds more.Highly recommended!

(More customer reviews)This little thing can handle a lot of weight for being so small.It will hold a Canon EOS 5D with 24-105 f/4L IS lens and 430EX flash steadily -- in either vertical or horizontal orientation!(You have to mount the camera "sideways" on the base to do vertical shots.)This is a good 3 or 4 pounds of gear, and this much weight absolutely destroys my DSLR-sized Gorillapod.It is no problem for the little Slik, however.Due to weight distribution, this tripod probably will not work for much longer lenses, although if the lens is big enough to have a tripod mount, then it might work.I have been able to use it with my 70-200 f/4L IS both vertically and horizontally with a little care to set the legs at the right angles to provide support where it needs to be.

One other note: I have the "II" version of this tripod (the current version that Amazon sells is "V"), which I purchased used in 2002.It is still going strong!The "V" version looks just the same as mine, based on the Amazon photos.

The picture here indicates that it has the same capacity as the canon one: 1060mAh.That's not accurate.The one I received is marked 2000mAh.Twice as much capacity!Of course those things are not always accurate, but...well, it's holding up pretty well.It's hard to gauge because both of these batteries last so long in the XSI.But it definitely performs well.

In another location someone reviewed a generic replacement for this battery and said it was a slightly different size than the real one from canon and that you would have to pull it out with a toothpick or something.That's not true of mine.It fits perfectly and is exactly the same dimensions.It falls right out when you move the lever that holds it in place...just like the official canon version.

So besides capacity, what is different from the canon battery?This one is physically lighter.

Everything I've seen from this battery is better than the one canon sells.It's a real winner.I may just buy another one!

(More customer reviews)I have seen the reports of purple fringing and noise. Here is what I've found. At high ISO settings (above 200) there is alot of noise (big suprise). I usally use the program mode and keep the ISO at 64 and my photos look great.

I have not had the problem with purple fringing. I have tried and tried but I can't reproduce the problem.
Is it as good as a $3,000.00 digital SLR? No, even though that's what it is constantly compaired to. The digital SLR that comes close in price is the EOS Digital Rebel. But by the time you buy a couple of lenses you are in the $1,500.00 range, that's 50% more and no you can't take a short video with the EOS. And the DSC-F828 color reproduction is better than the Canon.
Is it better that other cameras in it's class? YES! I had a Fuji S7000 and had to return it, the photo quality and focusing problems were horrible. If you want to see purple fringing and noise look at a Fuji S7000 photo!
The DSC-F828 takes crisp clear photos under all lighting conditions. It's Auto-focus is super fast and accurate. The camera body is solid. The lens has great range and the macro works great. The camera is EASY to use. You can use the infrared setting to take pictures in the dark without flash (yes they have noise) Or you can use the night framing to take a normal flash photo in the dark and they look great.
Why 4 stars and not 5? The only drawback is that there is no black&white setting. I like to see what a photo is going to look like in black & white when I'm shooting. And the tech support is weak. I emailed tech support to see if they are going to do a firmware update and suggested a b&w setting. I like to use an IR72 infrared filter. And they gave me a lame response. "We aren't going to add new chips to the camera." Tech support should know the difference between software and hardware.
If your going to freak out about a little noise or you want to blow-up a photo to a poster size you can use Neat Image to remove any noise, and it's free for non-commercial use.

(More customer reviews)Owned a D3 for one and a half years and traded in for the D3x after trying out the new model for a day. My review is not about price - for the record I think Nikon stretched the barrier on the price point for this which I am not happy about - but as far as performance goes I am happy. The D3x results is are perceptibly superior for landscape and macro photography - which is what I typically shoot - even on just A3+ prints.... so I can imagine that the results would be that much better for larger sizes.Just as many of you, I have also read argumentson the net re the megapixel myth ad nauseamand was half convinced about it but nothing speaks as clearly as prints (and I'm comparing studio shots of the same subject taken with the two different cameras).

Have not tried the D3x for sports photography yet but I suspect that unless you are shooting either motor-sports or winter sports, the moderately slower 5fps in large FX mode compared with the 7fps for the D3 is not going to be an issue.

I also spent a day with the Sony Alpha-900 given that is the only other player in a similar mega-pixel category. The output was all right but overall just not in the same league as the D3x in terms of handling, build quality etc etc (I'm probably biased as I am very familiar with Nikon controls - just found the Sony too 'fiddly' and 'plasticky' and couldn't see myself spending hours with it without getting irritated).

Early days with the camera but so far it feels like one of the best DSLR's I have used especially when the medium format alternatives would involve rendering my large pile of Nikon lenses useless and the replacement cost would be prohibitive. As mentioned earlier the D3x pricing is a different issue altogether and I think that the right price point would have been around $2K lower......will update if and when I discover any shortfalls or glitches.

I did some research on digital SLR's but then decided I'm no where near a professional photographer and just needed something to take great pictures of my children and other "normal" events.

I found this Kodak and I'm glad I did!I was going to buy the Z740 after reading the Amazon reviews but ended up with the Z710 for the 7.1 MP.

I see someone else's review that the screen was grainy (I found that not to be true).I haven't printed any pictures yet but have moved them to my computer and they are fantastic.

The camera's optional settings (sports, kids, etc..) are fantastic.I did find that I had to change the flash while on sports last night at my son's basketball game because the gym was a little dark.

Which brings me to an AMAZING quality of this camera.There is a night setting which allows you to take pictures in dark conditions.I tried it out while driving home and it was amazing.What was STARTLING was that I tried to take a picture of our all black dog in our completely dark bedroom (ABSOLUTELY NO LIGHTS ON IN THE ROOM OR ANYWHERE IN THE BACK OF THE HOUSE WHERE THE ROOM IS).The results were fantastic (once I was able to find her in that darkness!!).It was as if you were taking the picture in absolutely perfect conditions.

I will have to get used to not zooming in so much with the 10x optical zoom because I'm not used to having digital zoom also on a camera.Take your picture as close as you can without making it fuzzy and then zoom in and crop with the settings on the camera or with the software that is included.

The camera looks much more expensive than it is.I played with it for hours last night and the battery has not died (did have that problem with other cameras...battery lasting only minutes/hours).Display is fantastic; features are fantastic.Unlike other cameras, the monitor display is crystal clear in all conditions (well, not the total dark room but that's to be expected...and, it is very clear once the flash goes off and you see your image for a moment before it is saved).

THIS CAMERA IS ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE MONEY!You won't be disappointed.If you're looking to take really great pictures with an amazing piece of equipment, you won't go wrong buying the Z710!

Edit in June 2007:Just came back from a field trip on the Maid of the Mist at Niagara Falls.Wait until you see these pictures!This camera is simply spectacular.I thought I loved the pictures indoors at basketball games.Then, the love just got bigger when the pictures are outside.Great colors!The LCD is a bit hard to see in bright sunlight but rest assured, you're getting the shot!

(More customer reviews)This is one of those "must gets" if you cherish your Micro 4/3 lens. Sadly, on the Olympus E-P1 it sticks out a bit, not really annoying, but since the 14-42mm lens on the E-P1 retracts so nicely, you'll immediately notice that the lens isn't as compact as it used to be.

Still, better to have a small filter sticking out than damage your $300 lens.

Quality of the filter is fine, but then again, there isn't much you can mess up on a UV filter.

The 78x zoom is amazing as well.It has the anti-shake feature that really works.I can't believe how far this thing zooms in and takes clear shots.And for those who don't know, having the internal hard drive is awesome.Don't mess with the disc or external memory cameras.

If you want high-definition, "blu-ray" shots, spend the extra cash for the true HD cameras, but for me this camera is perfect.

It will even advance semi-automatically if you hold the button down and you will hear the stations as the radio sweeps through the frequencies so you know how/where to locate stations (unlike Sangean pocket radios which mute during automatic scan and seek functions). Thus, there is no fully automatic, press and scan or even a seek function, but I have found this manual tuning capability totally adequate because of the simplicity of the five preset tuning buttons for each band (with 2 sets of five presets on the fm band). It is quite silly that Sony didn't take the time right now to also add 5 more presets on a second set of am bands just as they did on fm on the SRF-M37V for example which has 25 presets available and not 20 presets as on this newest model. This is especially because the am reception on this radio is quite exceptional in addition to all of its other very nice features.

3) It is as good as the Sangean pocket radios that I have recently tried as well (including the famous DT-200VX). It remains to be seen if the new (June 2008) Sangean DT-400W (with NOAA weather coverage and broadcast alerts) will compete with the Sony SFR-37W.

4) It has a one year limited warranty and clearly not just 90 days as listed on numerous websites, including Amazon.com. This time limit is clearly listed on the instructions with the radio (the included Sony warranty certificate comes attached to the radio instructions).

5) I get excellent reception here in the mountains of New Mexico for a super-portable am/fm/weatherband radio receiver with 20 presets (5 on am/10 on fm and 5 for weather) that lasts 30-54 hours on one AAA battery. Weatherband signals are weak by the nature of the short range, low power NOAA transmitters and you must turn up the volume to adequately hear them and then adjust it back down for most am/fm stations especially.

6) All presets are very intuitive and extremely easy to use (a one button press system) as well as very easy to set. They are also easy to change as needed, especially if you travel a lot. Also, as long as you change the battery within 3 minutes of removing it, no presets will be lost (fortunately changing the battery is a snap).

7) The SRF-M37W is as extremely durable and well made and should last a very long time. In fact, my son's SRF-37V (its immediate predecessor) was extensively chewed 3 years ago by his young puppy (whose name is his gal Friday since he first got her on a Friday) and it still works quite well! Also, the battery cover is normally hinged to the radio so that it can't be lost (unless excessive force is used when it is opened and in this case it is designed not to break, but instead to simply pop out, but can easily be reinstalled as shown in the Sony manual). It also comes with a belt clip that nicely and firmly attaches to the radio for convenience. It also has a lock switch to keep all settings unchanged (except for the volume control) with an LCD screen indicator for the locked position as well as a battery level indicator, etc.

8) When using it inside a building go as close to the windows/doors as you can to get the very best reception. Radio waves do not penetrate very thick structures well so the best reception should generally be found outdoors for hiking, jogging, just plain walking, etc.

9) As others have stated you probably will want a better set of earphones to fully enjoy listening on all bands, but the supplied pair is certainly adequate for most purposes. In addition, however, I have found that if you use a set of headphones with a longer cord (such as the ~1 m cord on the Sony MDR-Q22LP clip-on earphones), substantially improved fm reception results since the cord acts as the fm antenna on these radios.

10) For those like me who will use this device near a computer, some degree of RF (radio frequency) interference (static on both the am and fm bands) can be expected. The RF interference is substantially reduced the further you move away from the computer or if you hold the radio in your hand or if you can extend the headphone cord fully.

This Sony is my personal update for an old analog Sony radio (the SRF-19W am/fm stereo radio Walkman) from the late 1980's that is still working (also with no speaker and with a DX RF (radio frequency) gain switch even way back then)!

I also have a Sandisk 4.0 GB Extreme card, and did an interesting comparison.I held a recording time race between Ultra and Extreme, here in my livingroom.Recording a big buffer full of photos in multiple trials, the recording times were identical.The more expensive Extreme was no faster than this card.In my case, the recording rate has to be limited by my camera, a Nikon 8800.
Having a reliable card as large as 8.0 GB is very helpful.
My cards have traveled to Alaska, Mexico, and Ecuador, and have had to function in all sorts of conditions.They have recorded 100,000+ photos, each of which I desperately did not want to loose.I back them up as often as I can, but I still worry, and I have lost photos when other cards failed.
I am pleased to say I have never lost a photo from a Sandisk card - in spite of the abuse I put them through.
Last week I filled up my Sandisk Ultra II 8.0 GB with important photos - carefully staged photos of butterfly specimens at the California Academy of Sciences.I worked 12 hours a day for 8 days on this project.The card behaved as it always has, and every single one of the 2400 photos I took, made it home safely.
Do back your cards up often, but from experience I can say that I have a very, very favorable impression of this card.

(More customer reviews)The Pentax K-M/K2000 is my very first DSLR camera that I have bought. It is called the K2000 in the US and the K-M in different places of the world.

At first I was worried about limitations and was afraid that the K-M/K2000 would limit my learning ability because it is the most basic DSLR model from Pentax. I soon found out that just because the K2000 is Pentax's most basic DSLR does not mean that the camera itself is basic. The sensor is very advanced and it is the same one used in the more expensive K200D. I was surprised by the amount of things I had to learn from jumping to a DSLR from point-and-shoot, even with the entry-level DSLR from Pentax. The K2000's easy to navigate and use interface is helpful for a newbie like me. I was considering about the K20D and K200D but ultimately decided on the K-M/K2000 to save money as well as it being my first DSLR. Sure the K20D might pack more power but the K-M/K2000 still works like any other DSLR and still requires the same knowledge and technique to work like the K20D.

After playing with my new toy for quite awhile, I realized that there is much more to learn than just the camera itself and any DSLR limits itself based on how you limit your learning. Every DSLR works the same as stated, you'll have to learn F-stops, shutter speed, and ISO. The only true limitation is in the camera body from having less features, but those features have nothing to do with YOU and your knowledge on how to expose and compose the image you want. Every DSLR has the capability to produce a beautiful picture based on your knowledge and your technique. The picture quality also depends heavily on the lenses you use, so it's wise to spend less on a body and invest more on a lens if you're on a budget or if this is your first DSLR. After all, the Pentax K2000 will fit any K-mount lenses. It will fit the same lenses the K20D and K200D will.

The Pentax K-M/K2000 is the lightest Pentax DSLR camera and is non noticeably smaller than the Nikon D40. I was questioning it's size at first because I heard that this is a tiny camera and is smallest in the Pentax line-up. It is small but it's not "tiny", it will fit in my hands fine and I have long fingers. The camera is the lightest from Pentax and is one of the lightest DSLRs out there, but it is slightly heavier than the Rebel XS and the Nikon D60. The body of the K-M/K2000 feels very sturdy. The first time I held this camera I first noticed the quality of this DSLR, it is strong and well made.

The picture quality of the camera is good for a entry-level DSLR, the only problem is the noise levels at higher ISO settings, I never use 3200 because of the noise it produces at that ISO. I have my noise reduction set to weak and shoot only in RAW DNG. I try not to go over 800 ISO but sometimes I will have to go to 1600 ISO to keep the shutter speeds higher at night. 1600 ISO is still acceptable for this camera but I question if they should even add 3200 in the first place.

The kit lens that came with this camera is the Pentax SMC DA L 18-55mm AL. L after DA stands for light because it is light due to the plastic mount. The Pentax K-M/K2000 is the only Pentax DSLR at the moment to come with these "light" kit lenses. Yes it is plastic, but it is better than the original more expensive Pentax SMC DA 18-55mm AL that uses a metal mount. It's better because it uses the same optics as the SMC DA 18-55mm AL II, so it will produce the same image quality as the AL II but without the metal mount. The kit lens also does not come with the lens hood so you would need to buy it if you want some extra glare blocking.

The camera packs a lot of options and has a lot of built-in features so you can post process the image in it, but I never use this so I can't really review it. I use Adobe Lightroom 2 and Photoshop CS3 to process my pictures. The auto white balance on this camera works flawlessly and there is no need to adjust them, I just shoot in auto white balance mode for all of my pictures. The auto focus of this camera works fast, faster than the K20D and K200D which is a improvement. The auto focusing in low-light is also improved on this Pentax. The K-M/K2000 has a faster continuous shooting than the K200D, it fires at 3.5 compared to 2.8 in the K200D. Although there is some trade-offs such as 5 auto focus points and non-weather sealed body. The DA WR (weather-sealed) lenses from Pentax are expensive so I would buy the regular DA lenses instead. There's no point of a weather-sealed body if your lenses aren't weather-sealed with it. There is no need for more auto focus points because I found out the best is set to single point center-weighted. Lastly the K2000 has a in-body built in anti-shake so there won't be any need to buy a lens with a image stabilization. Although lenses with image stabilization will work better than the body's anti-shake, it's still good for using older lenses that do not have image stabilization.

(More customer reviews)I bought this camera because the technical specs appealed to me. But when I read all the critical comments I was beginning to feel I made a mistake.

Some critics claim that certain features were missing in the H9 that were listed in the specs before the camera was released. No doubt, that's not cool.Also, I haven't figured out how to set ISO levels. Probably I never will because the H9 insists of doing it for me. And then there is the lack ofRAW storage.

I have all these featuresin other cameras I own. And although it's nice to know it's all there if I want it, I have to admit I don't use these features all that often.

As other bridge cameras with advanced features, the H9 caught the attention of many people in the upper segments of the market who then were dismayed to discover its technical parameters.

On the other end of the spectrum, the H9 may be a bit too sophisticated for the point-and-shoot crowd to take full advantage of what it is capable of. The fact that the manual is almost unreadable doesn't help.

Now to the good part:

1. I haven't had that much fun with a camera in a long time. The H9 is light enough to accompany me almost everywhere, and I get a lot of terrific shots that I used to miss out on because I didn't feel like dragging around my heavy equipment. Because it is a super zoom,no shots are lost because Ihave to change lenses.

2. The macro function is nothing short of sensational.

3. I have been able to take amazing shots with the lens all the way out to 480.

4. The H9 is fast - no shutter delay and super fast storage of images

5. No matter what I throw at the H9, it seems to handle it beautifully. I am sure I will figure out its limitations
as I go along and learn to respect them. The more I get to know this camera, the more it grows on me.

6. The large semi-flexiblescreen is a real plus, particularly for candid shots.

Well, as this generation ofsuper zooms go, the plusses more than outweigh the minuses.

I used to own the Sony DSC-T70 which was an OK camera in my opinion.As an upgrade, the T77 is really a much better camera.
Pros:
-Great image quality in good light.Compared to the T70, the T77 is produces better images in good light.The photos are pin sharp and more noticeable are fine details.When I take portraits with the T77, I now see pores and individual eyelashes!
-Slimmer and lighter than the T70, the T77 really is a pocketable camera that you'd want to take with you all the time.It's so unobtrusive I sometimes forget I have it with me!
-Dynamic Range Optimizer helps recover shadow details without losing highlights.
-A barrage of other features like smile shutter, face detection, anti-blink function, and image stabilization helps make taking pictures more fun.
Cons:
-I wished Sony had separate controls for saturation, sharpness, and contrast like all the Canons have.There are times I want to get more saturated colors.While it does have a vivid setting which boosts up the saturation, it also boosts up the contrast which results in harsh-looking photos (most of the time anyway).
-I think it's safe to say that this camera takes better picture in good light.The quality definitely goes down as the light levels go down.I think the problem with such a small sensor and lens is that in lower light levels, the camera compensates by choosing higher ISOs which results in more noise and more noise reduction which produces photos that are less sharp and less detailed.
All in all, I really like this camera, and at this small/slim size, I think this is as good as it gets.If you're looking for the smallest and slimmest camera that takes quality photos, then give the Sony DSC-T77 a try.

(More customer reviews)Many will tell you that the best accessory you can buy for your camera is a flash while some would say a remote. When it comes to battery grips, questions such as "would I really need the comfort to shoot in portrait for macro photography?" would come to mind. Often times, it's what deters us from buying a grip... the uncertainty of whether we will need it or not. Not sure which specific field in photography I'm getting myself into, I was hesitant. But after going to Hawaii for my honeymoon, it turns out that shooting comfortably in portrait for any type of photography was very important.

In this package, having two battery packs is just a bonus. Having an option to hold your camera in portrait position without getting a CTS (carpal tunnel) is the very reason why I bought one.

And so, my research for the ideal (or as close to perfect as possible) battery grip began. Everywhere I looked, reviews pointed to the Canon and the Opteka grips. The quality for both grips seemed to be unrivaled. Then there are others with LCD displays along with other fancy schmancy features. All their reviews seemed to conclude that crappy, thin plastic with plastic (non-rubber) grips couldn't compensate for the price or the features. The annoying play on the shutter button and scroll wheel was where many drew the line. So for me, it was Canon vs. Opteka.

Naturally, the next criteria was the price. After all, who doesn't want the cheapest of the best grips. While Canon's is well over the $100 mark, the Opteka which is said to be the closest to Canon-quality is only $65! As an added bonus, it includes two batteries for only $80 ! Not only are the two batteries included for only an additional $15, they are 1,800mAh as opposed to the 1,080mAh OEM battery. The next step didn't take much thought --I ordered one.

Upon receiving the item, I can tell you that the build is indeed very "OEM-like". Though I have never owned the Canon grip, it doesn't take a genius to compare the materials used on the grip to that of the camera body. It's no wonder people say it's no different from the Canon one. The grips are virtually cut from the same sheet of rubber. The thickness of the plastic also seems very much like the camera body. Aside from the Canon/model branding, there is probably no other difference. And to my surprise, the package also came with an extra battery pack for AA's! Let me say that no matter how professional of a photographer you are, two 1,800mAh batteries will last. Think how long your current OEM 1,080mAh battery lasts (provided that it was broken in properly). Now imagine how long two (not one, but TWO) 1,800mAh would last. But if for some reason you went on a vacation, you forgot to charge, forgot the wall charger, but happen to bring the AA battery pack, just buy six AA's and you're back in business. It's an unlikely situation but that extra option given to you just makes you feel that much more special when buying this product.

But back to the grip... the width is very wide compared to the XSi grip. Opteka's grip feels like a 50D as opposed to a 5D/1D, but it still makes your camera feel like a professional, full frame camera. The shutter button is placed perfectly and has zero play. The scroll wheel is a little shallow and tricky to turn but once again has no play whatsoever. Overall, the grip feels solid and well built. I have no regrets. I even keep the switch on the bottom grip on "ON" all the time so that I can shoot in portrait on the fly.

You won't regret this purchase.

(More customer reviews)I have been playing around with my Powershot S30 for a couple of weeks now, and I must say I am very impressed.This is my first digital camera.35mm photography has been a hobby of mine for over 10 years now, so I wanted to get a digicam that wouldn't let me down.And the S30 hasn't.It has almost all the features of my Canon Rebel 2000 (except interchangeable lenses, filters, and a hotshoe), but with a fraction of the size.The pictures are great.I have noticed that indoor flash pics tended to be a little too bright, but that was easily fixed by adjusting the flash exposure compensation down by 1/3 or 2/3.The camera takes pictures quickly (not as fast as my SLR, but that's to be expected) and the pics are of high quality.The battery life is relatively short, but a fully charged battery was more than enough to get me through over 100 shots, using the LCD screen for all of them, the flash for most, and spending a fair bit of time reviewing the photos.I *love* the fact that the camera records all the settings you used along with the shot.
The camera is small and rugged, so it can easily be taken everywhere.Even the battery charger is fairly small.I definitely recommend getting a 256MB card (check out newegg.com) and a USB reader.At highest resolution and least compression, I can fit 157 pics on the 256MB card.The only thing I've used the 16MB card that comes with the camera for was to transfer some pics to it so a friend who wanted "doubles" could go to Ritz camera and print them out for herself.Definitely recommend!!!!!!!

If you are a professional photographer, you probably have this or something like it and definitely need it.If you are not a professional, check your closet and see if you have one of those "collapsable gift boxes", (you know the kind where you get a shirt or a hanky for Christmas).I can't tell the difference in any of my photos using either of the devices.The procedure for the WB reference is definitely different, but the result is almost identical.Auto white balance in any DSLR camera is risky.This is especially true in portrait modes.If you are unsure of the color of the card, or don't like the results of the reference, buy a gray reference card from your local photo supplier.

(More customer reviews)I realize there IS no "perfect point and shoot camera". I suppose there can not be a PERFECT small camera due to the small size.
In recent months I have owned TOO many small point and shoot cameras including..the older Canon SD950, a Fuji F100FD, a Panasonic TZ5, Even an Olympus 1010 model..and lastly bought a new discontinued Fuji F30 off e-bay for indoor low light shooting. I am sort of running my own private consumer reports situation it seems. :)

This SD 990IS is maybe the best OVERALL point and Shoot I ever had. But, instead of all the usual glowing remarks Canon Elphs seem to get..I want to point out a few negatives or inconsistencies with this camera. I mostly bought this camera because of the new function..FACE SELF TIMER seemed like a GREAT and useful idea as I take more pics with my g/f, or friends, dog, whatever..on timer than anything else. Long story short Face Detection works THE best on this 990 of ANY other camera I have ever used. It's nearly flawless INDOORS. However I tend to use this Canon more OUTDOORS. Problem is is in rather bright sunshine like MANY cameras, Face detection has trouble. Simply, often it doe NOT detect a face..and won't detect the second face either. This is only in rather strong sunshine..otherwise Face detection and Face Self timer DOES work and works rather well. The lens is OK, but on such an expensive elph I feel there should be less purple fringing THOUGH it's not BAD..but it IS there...and also indoors ISO set above 250 or so tends to get a bit grainy. So much so, I set the megapixels to 10..thereby why did I need a 14.7 meg camera??

I have also noted to my eyes this camera is not producing the almost too vivid colors of most canons...DEEP greens...Deep blues. But I actually feel the colors produced by this camera are perhaps more natural than almost any point and shoot I have had so that's a good thing. Also a positive..this camera handles blown highlights (Too BRIGHT) and dark shadows better than most. To sum up..this IS a really good camera with REALLY useful features WHEN they work, ala face detection in bright sun.

I feel Canon and just about all the point and shoot cams presently out there are WAY too concerned about who's got the most meagapixels. I'd much MUCH prefer a camera closer to myOLDER Fuji F30 which BLOWS the doors of this Canon in low light no flash) WITH JUST 6 MEGAPIXELS..then a nearly 15 meagpixel camera with too much noise. The Fuji's lens sadly has THE most purple fringing outdoors of any cam I have tried, hence my search has continued. To sum up..in today's market..perhaps this 990is may be about the best OVERALL small cam out there..but as I pointed out..if you are rather picky..it has a few flaws and I feel it is a bit overpriced...BUT also a VERY good camera which will make most people quite happy. It has a nice metal body..and the battery lasts a LONG time..another plus!

HOYA DIGITAL PRO1 58MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER FILTER Review

(More customer reviews)This filter functions very well as a circular polarizer.It does seem to allow a bit less light into the camera than claimed, but the quality of photos is still excellent.

There are two significant weaknesses with this filter:

1) the edges you must hold to tighten the filter on the lens are very small, and it is very difficult to get the lens on tight enough so that it does not easily screw off your lens.

2) the multi-coating on the front of the filter is not the best quality.Mine scratched using a lens cloth ON THE FIRST TIME!Very minor damage to the coating, but certainly not what I expected--at this price!

Also, the standard Canon lens cap barely catches a thread, so I would recommend an over-the-edge cap, avaialble through Hoya.

Again, a good filter, but . . . .

I was looking for a minimalistic case that offers good protection but will still allow you to put it in a pocket. I like neoprene cases/wraps for a lot of my photo gear - not bulky/good protection/water resistant. I also wanted to check out the OpTech Snappeez Medium, because I use a lot of their neoprene pouches and their quality is great and so is Tamrac's. A reviewer on another site recommended this case for the S90 and I'm thrilled with how tight it fits with the extra grib attached! Highly recommend for a minimalistic Canon S90 case.

(More customer reviews)Why doesn't every camera come with a strap like this? Actually, my original Canon S80 did, but, sadly, we don't see this style very prevalent amongst today's cameras. In fact, if you do some checking, you might find, as I did, that this is one of the ONLY handstraps for a point and shoot camera that contains the all important slider piece which allows you to tighten the strap onto your wrist so that the strap (and the camera) doesn't slide off your hand at the first moment you aren't paying attention.

Once you use a design like this, you'll scratch your head in incredulity as to why it is not "standard issue" for all wrist straps. The problem with the wrist strap, of course, is that it slides off your hand almost as easily as it slides on, with the potential result being a dropped camera. With the inclusion of the 1 cent slider on the strap, you are able to slide the strap on and then more securely affix the strap to your wrist, making for a better shooting experience and a great deal more measure of security.

Grab one or two of these while they are still available. Why four stars instead of five? Well, because (and I'm being picky here) the strap is not flat (it uses a standard round rope-style format). The flat style is a bit more comfortable over the long term, and hence, the deduction of one star. However, the ability to secure strap to your hand with the slider is a much more important factor. Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)I got the camera abouta week ago and highly recommend it. If you buy this camera, I recommend getting an H type card which is much faster than the M type for taking pictures. Some movie functions do not work to full capability with the M type but do with the faster H type. I also recommend getting NIMH 2700 mah batteries and charger. Their higher capacity is worth the moneyand will save over the long run.

As far as the camera goes, I wish the camera was higher than 7.1 mp, but compared to my old 3.3 mp camera, the pictures are so much clearer and finer. The camera has many functions build in, and you will need to read the manual to get full use of the camera. Out of the box AUTO mode works well, but after reading the manual, I think most higher end users will want to set their own modes.

Some nice included functions are the manual ability, the ability to choose among 15 different shooting types (such as through a window), and the ability to store raw images among others. Storing raw images is slow due to the large file size and can take several seconds on an M type card.

Movie mode is able to take 30 fps at 640X480, but 15 fps is still goodquality. With the M type card you can only take 15 seconds of movies at full mode, but H type you can fill your memory card. The default setting for movies is without sound so you will need to turn this on. However, with sound turned on, I was not able to zoom, even with the H card.

Image Stablization was nicely setup and can be set with just the push of a button rather than going through the Menu. Also, the eyepiece viewfinder is setup so that if the display on the back is on, the viewfinder is off and vice-versa. In fact when you use the eyepiece viewfinder, the picture that is normally displayed on the back is now in the eyepiece. I suppose this is good for taking pictures when it is too bright to see the back screen.

Finally, I like to take weathershots and this camera includes a time lapse mode, which I can put together with my old software (not Olympus) into a movie.

(More customer reviews)I bought this camera last week since I needed a ultra zoom camera. I rarely upgrade my cameras unless the new has enough good features so that it deserves a new spending. And this camera surely comes with nice features. 30x Long Zoom. 24mm at wide end and 720mm (yes 720) at telephoto end. Super High Speed Movie with up to 1000 frame per second. These are absolutely jaw dropping features, so I had no doubts when buying the camera. After buying the camera I still love it but there are a lot of things that can be improved. I upgraded to latest firmware for camera.

* Switching between RAW and jpg shooting is not easy at all. The change has to be made at page 4 of camera settings.
* RAW recording is extremely slow. You have no choice but to wait until recording is finished to prepare for next shot.
* Fuji's Raw format is supported by very limited number of free and proprietary software providers. The either did not open RAF or had support for other Fuji's but not HS10. The lesson came with many crashes, installs and uninstalls.
* Raw software included on CD is not the best you can have. It only converts to JPG no TIF. On my PC all choices for manipulating RAW was locked and I could not find a way to unlock them. Though this is my first week and there might be a choice.
* Super High Speed Movie with at 1000 frame per second is done at extremely low resolution of 224x64. Every thing comes at a price. 60 fps at 1280x720, 120 fps at 640x480, 240 fps at 442x332, 480 fps at 224x168
* I used 480 fps a lot and there is a dark frame every few frames. This happened even in captures under full sun.
* I did not test the video capture feature extensively. But basic use worked fine for me.
* Using 4xAA batteries is a plus for me. You can choose Ni-Mh Alkaline and Lithium from camera interface.
* I had Sony cameras for about 12 years and I think they are right at movie file format selection. Fuji's choice of Apple Quicktime creates a lot of problems for PC users. Although Quicktime is included in CD I am not happy with installing it and I certainly can not force my friends to install it in order to view my movies. Avi's are good for PC's, Mov is good for Mac and MPG is good for PC, Mac and Linux.
* I use exposure compensation and bracketing a lot. Compensation value is not displayed even if the info is displayed. They are a bit hard to access and the settings are forgotten when one restarts the camera.
* Bestshot mode allows to capture up to 1.5 second before you fully press the shutter. This proved very handy in sport and bird shooting.
* 3" LCD monitor is great for capturing and viewing. I had no difficulty in using under bright sun.
* Manual focus ring has no resemblance in function to old cameras. I tried to use it a couple of times but gave up. It is not well documented in manual.
* Face Detection. There is a Face Detection mode in camera but I could not find what it does when a face is detected. My 5 year old small Sony captures when smile is detected. HS10 just shows a green frame around the detected face. I wasn't able to grab the significance.
* I tested night shots with tripod setting and had good exposures with the mode.
* I could not verify whether Landscape mode focuses on infinity or hyper-focal distance.
* White balance modes had all what I needed. They are easy to use.
* Deleting multi images is not possible. You have the choices of deleting one by one or deleting all images.
* The zoom ring is extremely useful and far superior to electronic motor zooms provided in some cameras.
* Automatic viewfinder / monitor change looks for your eye approaching the viewfinder. It is fooled by changes in environmental light. I turned it off since it played tricks on me on sensitive moments. If your monitor suddenly goes black you might need to turn it off either.
* Flash has to manually opened to be available. There is no true "Auto-Flash" mode
* Histogram can not be displayed continuously. You have to press a button and keep pressing it to have histograms.

My wish-list
* I wish time lapse shooting mode was possible for the periods possible with the battery.
* I wish focus bracketing or focus stacking was possible with this camera
* I wish infrared or night mode was present.
* Automatic dynamic range according to contrast of the scene.

(More customer reviews)I never take my UV filter off of my lens unless I am going to immediately put on a different filter.There are basically two camps out there, those that feel you should always use a UV filter to protect your lens from dirt and scratches and those that feel it is a waste of time and only degrades your image.Well, I tried going without one for awhile and then dirt started to build up on the front element of my very expense lens.And although you can clean the front element of a lens, I feel much, much safer wiping my comparatively cheap UV filter time and time again rather than chancing any actual lens damage.I think for the nearly unquantifiable loss in image quality you may suffer by having a UV filter on, it is well worth the extra piece of mind it gives me.

(More customer reviews)We have here the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens that is seemingly designed to do one thing: make you want more.I received mine as part of my kit package with my Nikon D40.It is a decent lens that cuts corners all over to keep price down, and doesn't really do anything great.However, for those first starting out, it's light as a feather, simple to use, and at least for the initial month or so, all you need to get out and start capturing memories.

As expected for the price, it is of relatively low-grade plastic construction, to include the mount (the part at the rear that connects to the camera), however the optics are uncharacteristically sharp.While it is an AF-S lens (focusing element in the lens and not the camera), it doesn't benefit from full-time manual override found on other AF-S lenses (that is, you're able to make manual adjustments after the lens has focused).I'm sure that Nikon did this as a cost-cutting measure.For users of this lens, this shouldn't be an issue as you can always switch over to manual focus anyway via a switch on the lens or camera (save the D40/X which doesn't have an internal focus motor and as such no switch on the camera).However, more experienced users will find the manual focus ring quite distasteful.Also, since the front element rotates, use with a polarizer will be annoying.

With a variable aperture of 3.5-5.6 you can easily get available-light shots for outdoor daylight photos, and well-lit indoor photos without jacking up the iso too high at the wide end, but near the long end, you're going to need to use a flash unless you use a relatively slow shutter speed or high iso setting.You're going to get some vignetting (darkening of the corners) on the wide end, as with any wide-angle lens, but this can be corrected with most post-processing software, like Photoshop.Also, there will be CAs or purple fringing with high contrast images.

The range is quite short, though not as bad as say the 17-35 or the 35-70 (which outclass this lens in every way, shape and form), and will definitely have you wanting for just a little more reach at the long end.The Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ($199.95 Amazon) is an excellent compliment to this lens, or if you can afford it, the Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G AF-S VR ($473.32 Amazon).The difference between 55 and 70 is fairly small and won't be missed (but the difference in price will hurt a little more).18mm will most likely be plenty wide allowing you take large group, landscape shots, and even some fun distorted portrait shots due to the barrel roll at the wide end.

All in all, this is a lens to get you started, but leaving you wanting for more.More range, faster light gathering, better construction, etc.Its cheap construction is enough to keep price down, but won't take very much abuse.Also, being a kit lens, you'll be hard pressed to sell it unless packaged with the camera if you ever upgrade lenses in the future.It is what it is, with the only alternative at this price being the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D ($109 Amazon) aka, the nifty fifty.

It can hold a small SLR, a flash, and a lens or two. It is amply sized for an Olympus E-P1/E-P2 and it's accessories, which is what I use it for. The rain cover is a nice feature this bag comes with, for outdoor-nature and sports photography in places where it rains alot (Ohio). Overall- a nice little bag that is'nt too much to lug around.

But the serious critiques seem to come from those looking for a pro SLR, nota point and shoot.Which to me is like saying a great family car isn't likea sports car.Two different animals.But for my needs, which include some shots for publication and web publishing, this is an enormously big camera at a reasonable price. Battery pack works great.Strobe is big. One annoyance: not sure if sound-effects can be shut off.Serious problem for wildlife fotogs.Updates...See comments on how sound can be turned off.Also, after a few months of use, still feel great about the camera.Con: On close photo shots, if you have the lens attachment on, the lens attachment will throw a shadow as it blocks the strobe.

The user manual was huge, the camera controls mystifying, and the pictures were blurry.I blamed it on myself, thinking that I needed to read some books on photography.I spent hours reading books about photography, trying to solve the soft focus problem (see?I did learn something!Blurry is called "soft focus.")I thought my crummy pictures were my fault, after all, Canon was supposed to be the best!A few months short of two years, my Canon died a weird death--one day, I turned it on, and the screen was awash in purple and red blobs. I was angry at Canon after reading that this was a common occurence and there was no fixing it.But secretly, I was relieved.I hated that thing.

Holding my breath, I bought this EasyShare C330 camera with the dock.I didn't believe it would take good pictures...after all, how can something "easy" be good?WOW!!!Was I delighted!It really won this skeptic over.The pictures are clear, and the camera is so easy to understand and use!It narrates settings for you, it's easy to navigate, and it's a complete joy to use.The software is amazing--you can take a completely unbalanced, over-dark picture, edit it with a one-touch "enhance" button--and you've got a perfect picture!The color technology is amazing, too--gorgeous blues, vibrant reds; better than real life!What a delight after that complicated, annoying Canon.

Because this camera is such a joy to use, I find myself taking 20 times more pictures than I used to.I cannot say enough good things about it...it has completely changed picture-taking for me.Because I love taking pictures now, this camera has taught me more about photography than all the manuals and photography books I had to read.

In a nutshell, I would recommend this camera to anyone who just wants to take a good picture.Leave the "F stops" and "exposure times" to people who are interested in that sort of thing--I am definitely not.This camera takes fantastic pictures, PERIOD.

(More customer reviews)This camera just feels good. This particular (black) body is rubberized (but all-metal underneath the rubber coat), something not apparent in the pictures or description. It's a small camera, smaller than the Canon SD870, but not as small as the Canon SD1000. Slim and pocketable, easily.

I was trying to decide between these three cameras, and I got the Lumix because of it's optical image stabilization (SD1000 does not have this) and because it felt better in my hands than the SD870.

This camera has a wide-angle lens (28mm equivalent), which REALLY makes a difference when you're taking a group picture in a small room or trying to fit a cathedral into a shot when you're standing in front of it.

Optical image stabilization will help remove your hand jitter in low-light situations. Possibly the best new, real feature to hit digital cameras since 7 megapixel resolution.

The other major feature on this camera is the new "Intelligent Auto" mode which works great, but it basically detects between 4 different scenes, not every single scene mode as I was led to believe. Face detection really does work, but I don't think it's any better than any other autofocus system.

Image quality is average, whatever that means. For a point and shoot though, nobody should be expecting SLR-quality shots on such a tiny camera, tiny lens, and tiny CCD sensor. I think it's ridiculous how anyone expects SLR quality at all. Physics people! So for it's size, the pictures come out great, and I am not disappointed.

Video quality is great - it supports a really high 848x480 (widescreen) resolution, higher than most (if not all) other compacts out there right now. The audio quality does suck. To me, it sounds like it's underwater compared to my old Sony or Nikon digital compacts. However, it's good enough, and if you want better, get a real camcorder. Caveat - the "Video" mode is on the opposite side of the mode dial from "Picture" mode. Somebody missed the usability memo.

Screen is sharp and is covered by glass, not plastic. This means greater scratch resistence, but since the glass protrudes a little from the body of the camera itself, it might also attract more scratches, too.

The only major downside to this camera is that from power-on until picture-taken, it's about 3-4 seconds. This is bad for when you just have to get that once-in-a-lifetime shot. However, if that moment only lasted 3 seconds, I don't think anyone could have gotten a good picture of it.

Look to this camera as a real alternative to the insanely popular Canon digital elph line. Hands down, Lumix cameras look cooler and have all the important features Canon has. I agonized between Canon and Panasonic, but I have no regrets with my choice. Do it!

(More customer reviews)As a pro photographer, I always use the best equipment.I wanted to add a fast f/1.4 lens to my bag, and this a truly a great lens.The quality of construction is excellent.I do a lot of low light photography (without my SB-900 flash), and the equipment I constantly use includes a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 and the Nikon D3S.I wanted an extremely fast telephoto for unique situations, and the Sigma was a great choice.If this lens had image stabilization, it might be even better.But with four times (thanks for catching my error C) the light from my f/2.8 lenses and with the high ISO photography that the Nikon D3S is capable of doing, I can normally get fast enough shutter speeds that would make image stabilization nothing more than a nice to have.

As you would expect from an 85mm f/1.4 lens, the bokeh is amazing.With the Sigma 85mm f/1.4, I get incredibly sharply focused images with the background completely blurred, which makes beautiful portrait shots.

The lens focuses quickly and the HSM motor is very quiet.It comes with two lens hoods, one for full-frame sensors and another for APS-C (1.5 crop) sensors like on my D2XS.

I also like that the filter size is 77mm and uses the same filters as my f/2.8 zoom pro lenses.

I like this lens so much that I am leaving it on a Nikon D3S pro body to use all the time.

(More customer reviews)I bought this lens new about six months ago to use on my D3, and have used it now for four weddings.

It is not quite as sharp as my 24-70mm f/2.8, when wide open, but when stopped down one stop, it is tach sharp. It is also much lighter which helps a lot at a long event, and it has more reach, making it great for parties and receptions.

It autofocuses very quickly with the screw drive in the camera, and I never miss any action shots due to focus lag. It won't focus on some of the low-end Nikon DSLRs because they lack the drive screw.

I don't recommend this lens for DX cameras, because 24mm is not usually wide enough on DX for many reception and party shots. In my opinion, the 16-85mm VR DX or even the 18-70 DX lens would be a better choice for a DX camera.

The 24-85mm is also a very nice light weight travel lens for an FX camera.

This Sunpak PZ42X is the perfect addition to my Photography gear. I didn't want to spend alot of money on the Canon 580, so with reading many great reviews, I decided to go for it. Works great for bounce flash, and is totally compatible with my Canon's E-TLL-11 functions. Manual settings are really easy to use also, and it has a built in wide angle deflector which works well with my Canon 18-55 3.5-5.6 IS lense. Way to go Sunpak! Just another tip!!!! Get a few sets of rechargable batteries. If your like me I love to play with my new toys, you can eat up some regular batteries! LOL!! I truly recomend this for beginners in flash photography, and pros that need a good slave flash.

Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip for Canon Digital SLR Camera Review

When over a year ago I purchased the battery grip for my 450D ("XSi) I was surprised by how much more I got out of my camera by simply adding a battery grip. It's not the fact that you have twice the amount of battery power - simply getting a second battery pack will do that, and since the grip comes without any batteries, you'll have to purchase that anyway.
No, the best thing about a battery grip is that it literally allows you to get a better grip on your camera. Now, the 7D is somewhat larger than the 450D, and thus this may not be as important to people with smaller hands. But there are more than one reason to add the grip to the 7D: it transforms this great camera into a truly outstanding one:

- first of all, the grip significantly enhances the 7D's handling. Since it is added to the bottom of the camera, it adds some height, making the camera fit your right hand much better. But that's just the beginning. The grip has near-perfect molding (at least for my hand), making holding the 7D so much more comfortable.
- I shoot lots of portraits, and the grip adds shutter button, and main camera controls to the portrait orientation. Being able to hold the camera upright comfortably alone is worth the price of this grip. Again, the mold for this orientation is near perfect.
- (this may look obvious at first, but is often overlooked) you can remove the grip. The reason why I point this out is because with the grip installed, the 7D is very similar in size to the 1D. But if for some reason size or bulk is at a premium, you can take the grip off - something that is impossible with the 1D
- The grip is by no means light, and adds almost 50% of weight to the camera. This is a mixed blessing. The added bulk is noticeable, and on longer field excursions may add some discomfort. On the other hand, it balances the camera better with many of the heavier lenses. The added bulk will prevent you from shooting single-handedly in most situations, as steadying the camera with a mounted L lens now requires significant strength. That being said, the added bulk also makes it less susceptible to small movements, something I discovered to my advantage when shooting with a (non-IS assisted) macro lens.

Energy-wise, the grip is quite cleverly engineered: you can either load one or two battery packs into the grip, and the packs do not have to be charged evenly. You can, therefore, simply take a pack from the grip, load it into the camera, and discard the grip. After a while you can then reload the slightly more drained pack into the grip, and continue shooting with the grip. You can also replace the packs with 6 AA batteries for emergencies. Be carful, though - AA batteries get drained significantly faster than a normal battery pack, and the battery display will not correctly reflect charge status when you use AA.

The grip mounts from below into the 7D's battery bay and tripod mount. The tripod mount is replicated on the bottom of the grip, so you don't lose mountability with the grip installed. Unlike the BG-E5 (the grip for the EOS 450) this grip has much better weather sealing, making me much more comfortable using the 7D in weather. Also like the E5, this grip's 'On/Off' switch does not control power but activates and de-activates the additional (portrait orientation) controls. Battery Pack are conveniently loaded from the back, and do not require a magazine like in the BG-E5. AA batteries do need to be inserted into a magazine first, though.

Although near perfect, the are some minor quibbles I've found:
- there is no way to charge the whole grip with batteries loaded. You have to take the packs out, charge them individually, and then put them back into the grip. Since you can use the grip with only one pack installed this is an inconvenienca rather than annoyance, but still...
- the grip cannot provide power to external flashes. If there is one thing Canon should improve than it is this. I do realize that this would require re-designing the grip - but having a flash feed from the grip would be a godsend, as the batteries in the flash unnecessarily increase bulk.
- the grip's shutter button seems more sensitive than the one on my 7D, causing me to accasionally shoot where I wanted to aquire lock. I would have preferred if both shutters felt the same.
- A battery charge tester in the grip that is usable without turning on the camera (or for that matter: without being installed) would be a welcome addition (the camera *will* tell you the remaining charge)

Summary:
The battery grip turns the already great 7D into an exceptional camera. Especially if you shoot portraits a lot, this grip will immediately let you wonder how you ever got by without it. Although the improvements in handling are not as dramatic as with the BG-E5 (for the EOS 450/500), I feel it is still significant to warrant purchase. As a 'bonus' feature you get the option of doubling battery power, and even use AA batteries in an emergency. As a whole, I recommend this battery grip to anyone who wants to get more out of their (already great) 7D.

My criteria were picture quality, advanced features and a price under $500. After a week oftaking over a hundred pictures, I'm very impressed with both the crispquality and true to life colors of each picture. It automatically adjuststo florescent, incandescent, and outdoor light. The selectable ISO settingsmakes for very impressive low light pictures. The panorama stitching waseasy to use and very accurate. This will be great for taking seascapeswhile on vacation. I'm still on my first set of batteries so battery lifeis great. I read a lot of reviews on the D450 ZOOM before I purchased theD460 and all the small things that owners complained about were fixed.Olympus really must listen to customer feedback. The menus are easy to use,it remembers settings when turned off, they even ship three manuals in eachlanguage instead of one in three languages. I recommend picking up a USBport SmartReader or Floppy adapter. Also get some NiMH batteries and acharger. You're in for some great pictures with this camera.

Beyond a digital camera, usb cord, and maybe 4 extra AA batteries you're not going to be able to cram in anything else. Although I haven't experienced it yet - a 5 foot drop onto cement would not protect the contents. Hindsight being 20/20 I should've put my 10 bucks towards a larger camera case/backpack.

Nikon 16-35mm f/4G ED VR II AF-S IF SWM Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Review

(More customer reviews)I am making this review of the Nikkor 16-35mm from the perspective of someone who also owns a Nikkor 17-35mm and a Nikkor 14-24mm.This review of this lens is made primarily with this lens mounted on a 12mp Nikon FX body, the Nikon D700.

I just got my copy of the Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G VR AF-S and did some back to back testing of this lens against the Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 AF-S.In almost all instances except when one needs to shoot at f/2.8 (but of course!), the Nikkor 16-35mm outperforms the 17-35mm handily.The improvements in acuity (sharpness), color and contrast are easily noticed.The improvement in corner-to-corner sharpness against the Nikkor 17-35mm is considerable.

How useful is the VR on this lens?This is best answered in the tests I made.

I conducted a back to back test of the 16-35mm vs the 17-35mm at night and observed that I can easily take good shots with this lens at 1/2 second at 35mm.My shots taken at the same shutter speed and focal length with the 17-35mm were not as sharp or were easily blurred.I needed to increase my shutter speed to 1/15 before I could get better results with the 17-35mm.Yet even then, the images taken with the 16-35mm were still sharper.

To raise the bar even higher, I installed the 16-35mm on my D300 where it has the equivalent field of view of 24-52mm.I shot the 16-35mm with the D300 at 35mm for an equivalent 52mm.I installed the 17-35mm on my D700 and shot at 17mm.Shooting the same scene at the same shutter speed and at the same aperture setting, I was able to get sharper images with the D300/16-35mm than I could with the D700/17-35mm despite the longer 52mm equivalent field of view vs. the 17mm of the D700/17-35mm.The images of the D700 were of course cleaner but not as sharp.The VR very clearly helped.

This result was most convincing and showed how well Nikon understood the importance of installing VR II even on an ultra-wide angle (UWA) lens such as this.As far as I am concerned, this settles for me any lingering doubt I had as to the usefulness of installing a VR on a UWA zoom or even a semi-wide to moderate telephoto zoom such as the Nikkor 24-70mm.If a VR II can do this much good with a 16-35mm zoom, it would do wonders if installed on the next iteration of the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom.

The usefulness and the effectiveness of the VR will not change my inclination for using a tripod whenever I can.But in those instances where setting up a tripod is difficult, not allowed or simply not possible, the VR on this lens will be very useful and appreciated.

I observed that there is indeed considerable distortion on this lens when shooting at 16mm.This improves somewhat at 17mm and becomes pretty good by 19mm.I noticed however that with careful placement, the distortion is nowhere as objectionable as I had feared.I also tried correcting the distortion during post-processing and it is fairly easy to do so.The 1mm wider coverage of the 16-35mm vs the 17-35mm is not a solid gain as one would need to be careful when shooting at 16mm but it is quite usable in certain conditions.My initial reluctance and anxiety about ever using this lens at 16mm has been calmed.

Compared to the Nikkor 14-24mm, a quick back-to-back test against of this lens against the 14-24mm shooting at 19mm f/4 showed that the 16-35mm is still no match to the Nikkor 14-24mm in corner to corner acuity.The 14-24mm is an exemplary wide-angle lens and remains unmatched till this day.The 14-24mm is also 2mm wider and faster.But the 16-35mm can accept filters and has VR.The 16-35mm is also lighter, less vulnerable as its front glass element can be filter-protected (when necessary in some instances), less expensive and is more useful for general use with its longer reach.Rather than consider one as a substitute for the other, I would consider the 16-35mm as a good complementary lens to the 14-24mm.

This UWA zoom is long and the lens itself without the hood is pretty close to the length of the 24-70mm.The box of the Nikkor 16-35mm is actually longer than the box of the Nikkor 24-70mm.This lens is considerably longer than the 17-35mm but is lighter.The 16-35mm uses the same hood as the 17-35mm.The 16-35mm is a bit more austere as it does not come with a padded case which is standard with the Nikkor 14-24-70-200mm f/2.8 lenses.But this helps to keep the cost low.

This lens uses a 77mm filter and thus interchangeable with the CPL and ND filters used with the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 and the Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8 VR/VR II.

I will provide more feedback as I use this lens for a longer time.

I cannot helped but be impressed by how good this lens is.It is a very sharp lens and when properly matched with the right subjects, produces very impressive results.Previously, most of the tests were made using VR where I consistently saw how useful VR is for travel and landscape photography.Since then, I have had more time to use this lens.My recent testing of this lens was with the VR shut off.Instead of VR, I used this lens with the Nikon D700, mounted on a tripod, shooting mirror lock and using a Nikon remote cable release.Using this setup, I would be able to test how good the optics of this lens really is.

For several nights, I shot mostly cityscapes at ISO 200 from f/6.3 to f/10 from 1/10th second, 1-30 seconds exposure (without filters), and as long as 5 minutes (with filters and Nikon MC-36).I compared it against the Nikkor 17-35mm and the Nikkor 14-24mm.Viewing the JPGs at 100% magnification on my notebook, I am amazed at the level of details and the rich colors that I normally could only get from RAW files after post-processing.The details, colors and contrast were top notch and the lens resisted flaring very well.Needless to say, the images I derived from RAW files were a notch even better than the already excellent JPGs.

In terms of optics, the Nikkor 14-24mm is still tops, the Nikkor 16-35mm a close second, and the Nikkor 17-35mm a far third.Shooting nightscapes where the corners are not as critical, the Nikkor 16-35mm is almost as good as the Nikkor 14-24mm.Using ND filters, the Nikkor 16-35mm can deliver images I could not get with the Nikkor 14-24mm.The Nikkor 16-35mm is now my first choice in ultra-wide angle zoom for Nikon's FX body when I need to shoot with filters.This lens, together with my Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G VR2, are now my favorite and most used lenses.

Using the Nikkor 16-35mm, I miss the ability of chucking the D700 in a small bag, something I could easily do with the Nikkor 17-35mm.Most often, I find myself reaching for a bigger bag when bringing the Nikkor 16-35mm.The Nikkor 14-24mm was never a small lens.In terms of length, the Nikkor 16-35mm is the longest of the three when the hood is installed.The longer length of the Nikkor 16-35mm gets in the way of packing it in a bag but its longer length makes for a better balance when handholding.The Nikkor 16-35mm also has the advantage of being lighter than both the 17-35mm and the 14-24mm. Today, I sold my Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 and will use my Nikkor 16-35mm f/4 VR as my primary ultra-wide angle FX zoom lens when I need to use filters.I will keep and retain my Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8.

I should add that one reason why I sold my Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 is that I mainly use my Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G and not the Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 for shooting people and events (as this keeps the distortion of people to a minimum).If one needs an f/2.8 and filter-capabilities for FX, the Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8 remains an excellent choice ... and really, the only choice if you want a Nikon made ultra-wide angle f/2.8 FX zoom lens that is filter-compatible.

My final verdict on the Nikkor 16-35mm f/4G VR?Highly recommended!Edit: May 15, 2010

I am currently testing the Nikkor 16-35mm on DX and my initial impressions are as follows:

1. The 16-35mm on a DX effectively translates to a field of view of 24-52.5mm,Here, the lack
of an f/2.8 aperture is sorely felt since this focal length is very useful for taking photos
of people indoors.

2. The hood of the Nikkor 16-35mm is not as effective in shading this lens on a DX boy. This is
most apparent when used at its maximum focal length at 35mm outdoors in harsh sunlit conditions.
I believe that a longer hood for using this lens with DX bodies will provide better shading than
the current hood which has been designed primarily for FX.I tried installing the hood of the
Nikkor 24-70mm and it fits perfectly well on the 16-35mm lens.But this hood causes vignetting
from 16-24mm (effectively 24-36mm on DX) when the 24-70mm hood is used.It disappears after
24mm and is very effective in shading the 26-35mm focal range of this lens.

As a side note, the Nikkor 16-35mm and 24-70mm are almost of the same length.One can easily
pass off the 16-35mm as a 24-70mm by installing the 24-70mm hood on the 16-35mm.Just
what purpose this will serve however is another question.

The 16-35mm is considerably lighter than the 24-70mm.I noticed that the Nikkor 24-70mm at 35mm
is better than the Nikkor 16-35mm at 35mm.

3. The 16-35mm f/4 is incredibly sharp on a DX shooting wide-open pretty much from center all the way to
the corners except at 35mm where shooting at f/4.0 can get a bit soft at the corners.Stepping down

(More customer reviews)This voice recorder was an excellent choice. I use it for a notebook, to make reminders, to remember ideas, to record dreams, for notes at school, and so much more. You can do a lot with it, and I'd recommend it to anyone. It has great range, almost too good, I find that I need to press record and then set it down, as the speakers are sensitive enough to pick up breathing if you talk into it. The great thing is the noise cancellation, which works great. This was definitely a great product.
